Deviations from standards

On double consonants

Some chosen consonant letters are replaced with variant shapes when occurring doubled. Technically this is implemented as ligatures. Hence each double character is rendered as one glyph. Note that therefore the distance between its component glyphs remains fixed when Tomson Talks is used with modified letter spacing. In that case, care must be taken to prevent ligation; for example, by inserting a Zero Width Non-Joiner (U+200C) or (in SVG) using tspan elements accordingly.
